The Polytechnic Ibadan has published the admission requirements for its Department of Computer Science. Candidates aiming at this course have to satisfy three separate standards before an offer is possible, namely the O’level subject combination, the JAMB UTME subject combination, and the cut-off marks fixed by the school and by the department.
The O’level list is wider than it first appears. Mathematics is fixed and a basic science is fixed, while three further subjects are drawn from a published list that spans both arts and science papers. Credit passes in English Language and Physics are compulsory on top of that.
At UTME level the picture narrows to four papers only. The departmental cut-off mark of 184 also sits well above the 150 benchmark that applies across the polytechnic, so Computer Science is one of the more competitive choices here.

O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Computer Science include the following:
- Mathematics,
- A Basic Science and any three subjects from below:
- Economics
- Geography
- Government/History
- Further Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology/Agricultural Science
- English Language
- Typewriting
- Credit passes in English Language and Physics are compulsory.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB
- Mathematics
- English Language and any two subjects below:
- Geography
- Physics
- Economics
- Chemistry
