This article is designed to help students who wish to study Building under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment, and Technology at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
Confirm that Building is still listed at OAU before you register for JAMB. The O Level line carries a long clause for technical certificate holders that the other sections do not mention.

Obafemi Awolowo University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in specialization spanning the humanities, the arts, the natural sciences, the social sciences, the medical sciences, engineering, and technology.
The university has 13 faculties and two colleges, the Postgraduate College and the College of Health Sciences, administered in more than 60 departments. It was previously associated with Loma Linda University in California, USA.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Building; You require;
- Five SSCE credit passes in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, and any one of Geography, Economics, Arts, and Technical drawing. For holders of NTC, the other relevant subjects could be Intro. to Building Construction, Bricklaying, Concreting, Walls, Floors and Ceiling Finishing, Building/Engineering Drawing, Joinery, Carpentry, Gas, Steam Work and Bronze Welding, Cold/Hot Water Supply, Sanitation, and Drainage.
Four credits are named at Mathematics, English Language, Physics and Chemistry, with the fifth drawn from Geography, Economics, Arts or Technical Drawing.
The second half of that line is for National Technical Certificate holders, listing building trades from Bricklaying and Joinery through to Cold and Hot Water Supply as acceptable alternatives.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- OAU accepts any one of the Additional Mathematics, Biology, Building Construction, and Land Surveying in addition to the listed options.
The waiver widens the fifth credit further, adding Additional Mathematics, Biology, Building Construction and Land Surveying to the subjects already named.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Building under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology at OAU include;
- Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry
None of that flexibility reaches the JAMB form. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are fixed beside the compulsory English Language, with no substitutions offered.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Building if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
Direct Entry names the same three subjects as the JAMB combination, so the trade subjects accepted at O Level do not help on this route either.

JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into OAU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Where Building Trade Subjects Count at OAU
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry run through all three stages, joined by English Language at the first two. Those four decide most of the application.
The long list of building trades and the waiver subjects apply only to the fifth O Level credit, not to JAMB or Direct Entry. Keep that in mind, and note that OAU requires 200 or above in JAMB for the 2026/2027 session.
