The University of Benin. offers Mathematics and Economics under its Faculty of Sciences, and this page sets out the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME combination, four Direct Entry routes and a waiver remark.

Mathematics and Economics are required everywhere on this page. Both are named O’Level credits, both are written in the UTME, and both appear in the A Level and NCE conditions for Direct Entry.
The waiver at the foot of the page is easy to miss and costly to overlook. It requires Direct Entry candidates to satisfy the UTME requirements as well as their diploma or A Level results.

You require;
Five (5) SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any other two (2) subjects selected from Science or Social Sciences at not more than two (2) sittings.
Three subjects are named and the last two must come from the Sciences or Social Sciences, so Arts subjects do not count. The two sitting limit applies to all five credits together.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Mathematics and Economics under the Faculty of Sciences at UNIBEN include;
Mathematics, Economics, and any other Science or Social Science subject
Direct Entry Requirements
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Mathematics and Economics if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes at not more than two (2) sittings. The subjects should include Mathematics and Economics.
- ND upper credit in Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, Accounting, or Business Studies from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology.
- HND lower credit in Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science, Accounting, or Business Studies from a recognized Polytechnic or College of Technology.
- NCE credit in Mathematics and Economics from a recognized College of Education. In addition, candidates should have merit.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
- UNIBEN -Candidates for Direct Entry should also satisfy the UTME requirements
This remark applies to all four Direct Entry routes above it. A diploma or NCE on its own is not enough, because the O’Level credits and the UTME combination still have to be met.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Direct Entry Candidates Must Still Meet the UTME Requirements at UNIBEN Mathematics and Economics
That single waiver line changes how the four Direct Entry routes should be read. Holding an ND at upper credit or an NCE at merit opens the door, but it does not replace the O’Level and UTME conditions.
For everyone, the core is the same pair of subjects. Mathematics and Economics must be credits, must be written in JAMB, and must appear in your A Level or NCE results if you apply by Direct Entry.
