The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has published the entry requirements for its Department of Structural Engineering, covering the O’Level credits, the JAMB UTME combination, two Direct Entry routes and the JAMB score needed for screening.

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language are required as O’Level credits and written again in the UTME, with a fifth science credit completing the O’Level list.
Direct Entry departs from that pattern. The A Level route names only Physics and Mathematics, leaving out the Chemistry that UTME candidates must sit.

The University has a diverse student population with students from different parts of the country and age brackets. The University of Benin courses cut across various levels in agriculture, science, etc.
University of Benin admission is extremely competitive as many candidates apply for admission into the university annually. University of Benin’s school fees are also very affordable, and it provides its students with facilities and infrastructure. They have good hostels, roads, electricity, etc.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited faculties and departments in the university.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Structural Engineering must include the following:
- Five SSCE credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language, and one Science subject
Four subjects are named and the fifth must also be a science, so the whole list stays within science and mathematics. Biology and Further Mathematics are the usual choices for that last place.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
- English Language
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
These four match the four named O’Level credits exactly, and no alternatives are offered. One body of revision therefore covers both the O’Level requirement and the UTME.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Structural Engineering if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- A Level passes in Physics and Mathematics.
- ND/HND upper credit at appropriate levels.
Chemistry is absent from both Direct Entry routes. It remains a required O’Level credit, so the difference lies only in what has to be presented at A Level or diploma stage.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIBEN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Chemistry Is Compulsory in JAMB yet Missing From Direct Entry at UNIBEN Structural Engineering
UTME candidates write Chemistry as one of their four subjects, while the A Level route asks only for Physics and Mathematics. The O’Level credit in Chemistry is required either way.
Everything else about this requirement is uniform. Four named credits, a fifth drawn from the sciences, and four fixed UTME subjects with no substitutions available.
Diploma holders can come in on an ND or HND at upper credit, and every applicant needs 200 or above in JAMB before UNIBEN will screen them.
