This is to notify the general public and all aspiring University of Jos (UNIJOS) students that the Department of Archaeology admission requirements have been published.
Archaeology sets a lower bar for diploma holders than most UNIJOS listings do, and the detail sits in a single line near the bottom of the page. Below are the O Level credits, the UTME combination, the Direct Entry condition, that waiver remark and the required score.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Archaeology include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language and one (1) of the following subjects, Religious Studies, Geography, Economics, and History.
Only English Language is named outright. One further credit must come from the four subjects listed, and the remaining three places are left entirely open.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language.
- Any two (2) subjects from Arts, Social Sciences and one (1) of History, Religious Studies, Government and Geography.
The four UTME papers work out as English Language, two subjects from the Arts or Social Sciences, and one more from the four named here. Government appears on this list although it was not among the O Level options above.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Archaeology if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Arts or Social Sciences and one (1) Science subject.
A Science subject is named at Direct Entry even though no science appears anywhere else on the page, so candidates using this route should check how it is counted alongside the Arts passes.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remark
UNIJOS accepts NCE Merit or ND lower credit.
That one sentence is unusually generous, accepting a National Diploma at lower credit and placing an NCE at merit on the same footing.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
An ND at Lower Credit Is Enough Here
Very little is fixed on this page. English Language is the only named O Level credit, and the UTME combination is built from broad Arts and Social Science categories.
The line that sets this course apart is the waiver. An ND at lower credit is accepted, below the upper credit most UNIJOS departments require, and an NCE at merit counts equally. UTME candidates need at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
