This is to notify the general public and all aspiring University of Jos (UNIJOS) students that the Department of Architecture admission requirements have been published.
Architecture accepts a far wider range of O Level subjects than most UNIJOS listings, including building trade and applied art papers. Below are those credits, the waiver remarks, the UTME combination, the Direct Entry routes and the score required for screening.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Architecture include Five (5) SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry and one subject from below:
- Fine Art
- Geography or Wood Work
- Biology
- Economics
- Technical Drawing
- Further Mathematics
- Introduction to Building Construction
- Bricklaying/Block laying
- Concreting, Wall, Floors, and Ceiling Finishing
- Joinery
- Carpentry
- Decorative Painting
- Lining, Sign, and Design
- Wall Hanging
- Color Mixing/Matching and Glazing
- Ceramics
- Graphics Design
- Graphic Printing
- Basic Electricity
English Language, Mathematics and Physics are the fixed credits. Chemistry heads a long list from which one further subject is drawn, and it runs well past the usual school subjects into carpentry, bricklaying, ceramics and graphics.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIJOS accepts five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing or five (5) Arts or Applied Arts and one (1) of History, Economics, Geography, and Chemistry.
This remark sets out a different way in. Instead of the English, Mathematics, Physics and Technical Drawing combination, a candidate may offer five Arts or Applied Arts credits plus one of History, Economics, Geography and Chemistry.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Physics
- Mathematics, and any one subject from below:
- Chemistry
- Geography
- Art
- Biology
- Economics
The UTME list is much shorter than the O Level one. English Language, Physics and Mathematics are fixed, and the fourth paper comes from five named subjects.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Architecture if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, or Fine Arts.
- ND/HND upper credits in relevant field.
Direct Entry keeps Fine Arts in play alongside the sciences, and a National Diploma or HND at upper credit in a relevant field is accepted as an alternative.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
An Applied Arts Route Into Architecture
Read only the first few lines and Architecture looks like a standard science listing built on English Language, Mathematics and Physics. Read further and a second route appears.
The waiver accepts five Arts or Applied Arts credits with one of History, Economics, Geography or Chemistry, and the O Level list counts trade subjects from carpentry to graphic printing. Fine Arts reappears at Direct Entry. UTME candidates need at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
