This is to notify the general public and all aspiring students of the University of Jos, (UNIJOS) that the Department of Banking & Finance admission requirements have been published.
Banking and Finance at UNIJOS names very little at O Level and a good deal more on the JAMB form. Below are the credits the department asks for, the subjects recognised for NBC holders, the UTME combination, the Direct Entry list and the required score.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Banking & Finance include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include: English Language, Mathematics, and any other relevant subjects.
- For NBC, the other two (2) relevant subjects could be from any of the following, Accounting, Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Office Practice, and Economics.
Only English Language and Mathematics are named at O Level. The remaining credits need only be relevant, and the second line tells holders of the National Business Certificate which commercial subjects will be counted.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language.
- Mathematics
- Economics, plus any one (1) of Government and Geography
The UTME form is far more specific. English Language and Mathematics carry over, Economics is added as a compulsory paper, and the fourth slot is a straight choice between Government and Geography.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Banking & Finance if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Accounting, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Geography, and Statistics.
Direct Entry names nothing as compulsory. Both passes are drawn from the same list of six, which brings Accounting, Management and Statistics into play for the first time on this page.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
Economics Appears Only After O Level
A candidate reading only the O Level section would take away that English Language and Mathematics are all that is fixed. That is true of the credits, but it is not the whole picture, because Economics becomes compulsory one section later.
Anyone planning a Banking and Finance application should therefore treat Economics as required from the outset, decide early between Government and Geography for the fourth JAMB paper, and score at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
