This is to notify the general public and all aspiring University of Jos (UNIJOS) students that the Department of Building admission requirements have been published.
Building carries two separate waiver sections, and between them they open routes that the main requirements never mention. Below are the O Level credits, both sets of waiver remarks, the UTME combination, the Direct Entry condition and the score required.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Building include Five SSCE credit passes in the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Physics
- Chemistry and any one subject from below:
- Geography
- Economics
- Arts and Technical Drawing
- For holders of NTC, the other relevant subjects could be Introduction to Building Construction, Bricklaying, Concreting, Walls, Floors and Ceiling Finishing, Building/Engineering Drawing, Joinery, Carpentry, Gas, Steam Work and Bronze Welding, Cold/Hot Water Supply, Sanitation, and Drainage.
Mathematics, English Language, Physics and Chemistry are the fixed credits, with one more from Geography, Economics or Arts and Technical Drawing. The final line lets National Technical Certificate holders count building trade papers instead.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIJOS accepts;
- ‘A’ Level passes and at not more than two (2) sittings in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or both.
- At least two (2) ‘O’ Level credit passes from Building Construction, Land Surveying, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Economics, Additional Mathematics, and Geography, including the English Language.
The second of these remarks is the more useful one, because it accepts O Level credits in subjects such as Building Construction, Land Surveying and Fine Arts that appear nowhere in the main list above.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Building if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- ‘A’ level passes in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIJOS accepts;
- ND/HND with a GPA below 3.50 in Building or Civil Engineering for the 200 level.
- ND lower credit in Building Engineering and other appropriate programs plus ‘O’ Level credit passes in Mathematics, Physics, and English Language.
These two lines are aimed at polytechnic graduates. The first admits an ND or HND holder in Building or Civil Engineering to 200 level even with a GPA below 3.50, and the second accepts an ND at lower credit alongside the three named O Level credits.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
A GPA Below 3.50 Still Opens 200 Level
Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry run through every section, and with English Language they make up both the core O Level credits and the whole UTME combination.
The waiver sections are where the real flexibility sits. Building trade papers count at O Level, subjects like Land Surveying and Fine Arts are accepted, and a diploma holder in Building or Civil Engineering can enter at 200 level with a GPA below 3.50. UTME candidates need at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
