Biochemistry at UNIJOS names every subject it wants on the first two routes and then loosens considerably on the third. Below are the five O Level credits, the four UTME papers, the Direct Entry condition and the score required for screening.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Biochemistry include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
All five credits are named, so a candidate has no choice to make at this stage and must hold the full science combination alongside English Language.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language.
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
The UTME combination is the same list with Mathematics removed. Physics, Chemistry and Biology join the compulsory English Language, and every one of them is already a required O Level credit.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Biochemistry if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and any one of Physics, Biology/Zoology/Botany, and Mathematics.
Direct Entry is the first point at which anything can be substituted. Chemistry stays compulsory, the second pass may be Physics or Mathematics, and Biology may be offered as Zoology or Botany instead.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
Only at Direct Entry Does Biology Have Alternatives
Biology is required outright at O Level and again on the JAMB form, with no alternative offered in either place. Only in the Direct Entry line does it become Biology, Zoology or Botany, which matters to candidates whose A Level was in one of the narrower subjects.
Chemistry is the one subject with no alternative anywhere, compulsory on all three routes. Mathematics runs the other way, required at O Level, absent from the JAMB form and optional at Direct Entry. UTME candidates need at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
