About The University of Jos

UNIJOS, officially established as a Federal Government-University by the Federal Government in 1975, has since evolved into an innovative institution charged with fashioning tastes and attitudes for the future.

The University of Jos strives to maintain its reputation as a globally ranked university that provides an excellent educational experience with a significant societal impact.

UNIJOS, a renowned academic institution, has over 12 faculties offering relevant and relatable courses in various disciplines.

Entry Requirements

O’Level Subject Combination

The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Civil Engineering include the following:

Five SSCE credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language, and one Science subject.

Four credits are named outright and the fifth is described here simply as a Science subject, which reads as an open choice. The waiver remark immediately below closes it.

Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks

UNIJOS requires a credit pass in Additional or Further Mathematics as the fifth subject.

This is the school-specific remark and it governs. The fifth credit is not any Science subject but Additional or Further Mathematics, so a candidate who read only the line above could satisfy it and still fall short.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.

  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics

The UTME form is fully determined, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics beside the compulsory English Language and nothing left to decide.

Direct Entry Requirement

These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Civil Engineering if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;

  • ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics.
  • ND/HND (Upper credit) at appropriate levels.

Chemistry disappears at Direct Entry. The A Level route names only Physics and Mathematics, and a National Diploma or HND at upper credit is accepted as an alternative.

JAMB Score

All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.

The Fifth Subject Is Not Your Choice After All

Physics and Mathematics are the two subjects required on every route, and English Language joins them at O Level and UTME. Chemistry is required on those first two routes but is absent from both Direct Entry conditions.

The detail that decides most applications is the fifth credit. The general line calls it a Science subject and the waiver remark names Additional or Further Mathematics, so plan for the narrower version. UTME candidates need at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
