Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & French include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language and French.
Only two of those five credits are tied down. English Language and French are compulsory, and the department places no restriction at all on the remaining three, so credits in sciences or commercial subjects count towards the total just as Arts credits do.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- French plus two (2) other Arts subjects
The UTME form is the opposite. Every one of the four slots is accounted for: English Language, French, and two more subjects that must both be drawn from the Arts.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education & French if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes/NCE merit in French and one (1) other Arts subject.
French is compulsory here too, and the second subject must again be an Arts subject. An NCE at merit level is accepted on the same footing as A Level passes.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
Your O Level Is Freer Than Your JAMB Form
French is the one subject named on all three routes, so nothing can be substituted for it at any stage. Where the routes part company is on everything else. Three of your five O Level credits are entirely your own choice.
On the JAMB form that freedom disappears, because the two subjects beside English Language and French must both be Arts subjects. Hold credits in English Language and French, pick your UTME combination accordingly, and score at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
