Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & Geography include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include Geography, English Language, and Mathematics.
Three of the five credits are fixed and two are open. Mathematics is the one to watch, because it appears here and nowhere else on the page.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language.
- Geography plus two (2) other Social Sciences/Arts Subjects.
Mathematics is not on the UTME combination. Geography is compulsory, and the two subjects joining it may come from either the Social Sciences or the Arts.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education & Geography if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- Two (2) ‘A’ Level passes/NCE merit should include Geography/Physics.
Physics is accepted in place of Geography on this route, and an NCE at merit level stands alongside A Level passes rather than below them.
Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks
UNIJOS accepts General English at NCE in lieu of credit in ‘O’ Level English Language or TC II merit.
This matters to candidates who never obtained the O Level English credit. General English at NCE, or a TC II at merit, is accepted in its place.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
The English Credit Is the One You Can Replace
Geography runs through every route and cannot be substituted at O Level or on the JAMB form. Mathematics is required once, at O Level only. English Language looks just as fixed, yet it is the one requirement with a stated waiver.
If you hold General English at NCE or a TC II at merit, a missing English credit is no barrier. Everyone else needs credits in Geography, English Language and Mathematics, Geography on the UTME form, and at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
