This is to inform the general public that the management of the University Of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, has published the admission requirements for her Department of Arts (Combined Honours) aspirants.
Combined Honours works differently from a single-subject degree, because the requirements are written around the subjects you choose to pair rather than a fixed list. Set out below are the O Level credits, the UTME combination, the Direct Entry route and the score UNN asks for.

About UNN
The University of Nigeria was the first indigenous university in Nigeria to attain full-fledged and autonomous status. It was modeled after the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of Nigeria’s five most reputed universities.
The University has 102 academic departments in 15 Faculties and offers 82 undergraduate and 211 postgraduate programs.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Arts (Combined Honours) are five SSCE (5) credit passes and should include English Language and the subjects to be combined.
The five credits are therefore partly self-defining. English Language is fixed, your chosen subjects are fixed by that choice, and the remainder may be any other credit you hold.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Arts (Combined Honours) include the subjects to be combined and one other subject.
English Language takes one of the four UTME slots. The other three go to the subjects you are combining plus one further subject, so a candidate pairing two subjects is left with exactly one free choice on the form.
Direct Entry Requirement
You need the following to gain Direct Entry admission to study Arts (Combined Honours) if you don’t intend to use UTME.
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes in the subjects to be combined.
Direct Entry is the tightest route. Both A Level passes must be in the subjects you are combining, so there is no free choice and no alternative qualification is listed.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 200 or above in your JAMB result.
English Language Is the Only Subject Named Here
Read the page closely and English Language is the only subject it actually names. Everything else is described as the subjects to be combined, which means your own pairing decides what the O Level, UTME and Direct Entry requirements turn out to be.
Settle on your combination first, then work backwards. Make sure you hold credits in English Language and in both chosen subjects, enter them on the UTME form alongside one other subject, and score at least 200 to be eligible for screening in the 2026/2027 session.
