This is to notify the general public and all aspiring University of Jos (UNIJOS) students that the Department of Education and History has published its admission requirements, with a UTME option list longer than most UNIJOS courses publish.
Below are the five O Level credits the department asks for, the subjects it will accept on the JAMB form, the qualifications recognised at Direct Entry, and the UTME score that clears you for screening.

Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Education & History include the following:
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, History and three (3) relevant Arts subjects
English Language and History are the only two credits named. The other three are described as relevant Arts subjects, so the department is steering candidates towards the humanities without naming particular papers.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language.
- History and any other two (2) subjects chosen from Christian Religious Studies / Islamic Studies, Literature in English, French, Yoruba, Geography/Physics, Economics, Government, and Hausa.
Physics is the surprise on that list. Alongside Geography it gives a science-stream candidate a way into a course that is otherwise framed around the Arts, and the religious studies entry is offered as either Christian Religious Studies or Islamic Studies.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Education and History if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
Two (2) NCE merit/’A’ Level passes in History and one (1) other relevant Arts subject.
History is compulsory again on this route, and the partner subject returns to the Arts wording used at O Level. An NCE at merit is treated as equal to an A Level pass, not as a lesser qualification.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNIJOS for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 180 or above in your JAMB result.
The Arts List That Lets Physics In
History is the constant. It is a named O Level credit, it is compulsory on the JAMB form, and it is one of the two passes required at Direct Entry. Everything built around it is a choice.
That choice is widest at UTME, where the published list reaches outside the Arts to take in Geography and Physics. Hold credits in English Language and History, pick two subjects from the list, and score at least 180 for the 2026/2027 session.
