This is to inform the general public that the management of the University Of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, has published the admission requirements for her Department of Banking and Finance aspirants.

Banking and Finance sits in the commercial stream, and the requirements below reflect that at every stage. They cover the five O Level credits, the subjects recognised for candidates holding the NBC, the UTME combination, the Direct Entry list and the score UNN asks for.
About UNN
The University of Nigeria was the first indigenous university in Nigeria to attain full-fledged and autonomous status. It was modelled after the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of Nigeria’s five most reputed universities.
The University has 102 academic departments in 15 Faculties and offers 82 undergraduate and 211 postgraduate programs.
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Banking and Finance are five SSCE (5) credit passes and should include English Language, Mathematics, and any other relevant subjects.
Two of the five credits are named outright. English Language and Mathematics are compulsory, and the department leaves the other three open to subjects it regards as relevant to the course.
For NBC candidates, the relevant subjects may be any of the following:
- Accounting
- Principles of Accounts
- Commerce
- Office Practice
- Economics
That list tells NBC holders exactly which commercial subjects are counted, and any of the five can fill the three remaining credit places.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Banking and Finance include Mathematics, Economics, and any of Government and Geography.
The UTME form is fully determined. English Language and Mathematics carry over from O Level, Economics is added, and the last slot is a straight choice between Government and Geography.

Direct Entry Requirement
You need the following to gain Direct Entry admission to study Banking and Finance if you don’t intend to use UTME
- Two (2) ‘A’ level passes chosen from Accounting, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Geography, and Statistics.
Nothing is compulsory on this route. Both passes come from the same list of six, so a candidate could enter on Accounting and Statistics alone.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Six Subjects to Choose From at Direct Entry
The three routes narrow and then widen again. O Level fixes English Language and Mathematics, the UTME form fixes three of its four subjects, and then Direct Entry opens up into a choice of six with nothing named as compulsory.
UTME candidates should hold the five credits, enter Mathematics, Economics and either Government or Geography beside English Language, and score at least 200 for the 2026/2027 session. NBC holders should check their commercial subjects against the list above.
