Civil Engineering is admitted under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The requirements are built on three sciences, and they barely change from one entry route to the next.
Physics and Mathematics appear on every route into the department. Chemistry joins them at O Level and at UTME but drops away at Direct Entry, which is the only real variation across the whole page.

You require; Five SSCE credit passes to include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language, and one Science subject.
Four subjects are named and the fifth is still restricted to the sciences. There is no slot in which an arts or commercial subject can be used to complete the five credits for this course.
Jamb Subject Combination
In UTME, the English Language is compulsory for this course. The three (3) other JAMB UTME subjects needed to study Civil Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering, Environment & Technology at UNN are listed below.

The JAMB combination offers no choice whatsoever. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are fixed, and together with English Language they account for all four subjects you will register.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Civil Engineering if you don’t intend to use UTME.
You require;
- ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics.
- ND/HND (Upper credit) at appropriate levels.
Direct Entry narrows the subject list to Physics and Mathematics, with Chemistry no longer named. The second route recognises an upper credit National Diploma or HND, which suits applicants coming from a polytechnic.
Jamb Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum score of 200 or above in your JAMB result.
Where Chemistry Stops Being Required
Physics and Mathematics carry UNN Civil Engineering from start to finish. Chemistry sits beside them in the O Level credits and in the JAMB combination, but it is absent from the Direct Entry subject list.
For UTME candidates that distinction makes little difference. Secure five credits including the three sciences, register Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and score at least 200 in JAMB to be eligible for screening.
