Medical Rehabilitation at the University of Nigeria (UNN) trains physiotherapists and related clinical staff, and the entry requirements are built around the physical sciences as much as biology. Each stage is set out below.
Chemistry and Physics are the two constants across every route into this department. What changes from stage to stage is the third subject sitting beside them, and that is the part worth reading closely.

About The University of Nigeria
The University of Nigeria, commonly called UNN, is a federal university in Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria.
Founded by Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 and formally opened on 7 October 1960, the University of Nigeria has four campuses – Nsukka, Enugu, and Ituku-Ozalla – all located in Enugu State and Aba campus in Abia State.
The University of Nigeria was the first full-fledged indigenous and first autonomous university in Nigeria modelled upon the American educational system. It is the first land-grant university in Africa and one of Nigeria’s five most reputed universities.
Entry Requirements
O’Level Subject Combination
The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Medical Rehabilitation include the following:
- Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Every one of the five credits is named, leaving nothing to choose. Mathematics is required here as a credit rather than a pass, which is stricter than several other UNN departments ask for.
JAMB UTME Subject Combination
Candidates will write the following Four (4) Subjects in JAMB.
- English Language
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
At UTME the department takes Physics, Chemistry and Biology and sets Mathematics aside. You are still expected to hold the Mathematics credit, but it is not one of the four subjects you sit.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Medical Rehabilitation if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require;
- ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Physics, and any of Biology/Zoology or Mathematics.
Direct Entry treats the third subject differently again. Chemistry and Physics remain fixed, but the third may be Biology, Zoology or Mathematics, so a candidate who studied Mathematics rather than a life science is not excluded.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into UNN for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have a minimum of 160 or above score in your JAMB result.
Mathematics Returns as an Option at Direct Entry
Chemistry and Physics hold steady across all three stages of this admission. The subject that keeps shifting is the third one: Biology at O Level, Biology again at UTME, then Biology, Zoology or Mathematics at Direct Entry.
That last substitution is the useful one to know. Secure all five named O Level credits, register the three sciences for JAMB alongside English Language, and reach at least 160 to be eligible for screening.
