Subject Combination / JAMB UTME Requirements


In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course. Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Library and Information Science under the Faculty of Education in the above Universities include; Any three subjects.

1. IBBU requires Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry/Biology

O’Level Requirements


The O’level subject combination and requirements needed to study Library and Information Science; You require; Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant Arts/Science/Social Science subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

1. UMYU requires five O/Level credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics and any other three Social Science/Arts/Science subjects.

2. TASUED requires five credits at one sitting or six credits at two sitting.

3. UNIOSUN, same as in Vocational and Technical Education.

4. UNN requires University minimum entry requirements with five O’ level credit passes, including the subject to be combined with Library and Information Science. The following additional requirements apply to a particular combination:
(a) Credit in Mathematics for Library & Information Science/Physics & Library and Information Science/Economics.
(b) Credit in Mathematics/Physics for Library & Information Science/ Chemistry.
(c) Pass in Mathematics for those combining Library & Information Science with Botany, Geography/Physics, Political Science or Zoology.
(d) Credit in English for those combining Library & Information Science with French, History or Political Science.
(e) credit in English Literature for Library & Information Science/English.

5. ABSU requires Five SSCE credit passes to include the English Language, four other subjects, and at least a pass in Mathematics.

6. KSU accepts a pass in Mathematics and credit passes in four other relevant subjects, including the English Language.

7. UNIBEN accepts five O’ level credit passes at not more than two sittings.

8. UNIJOS requires five credit passes in WASCE or NECO at not more than two sittings, including the English Language. Accepts a pass in Mathematics.

Direct Entry Requirements


These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Library and Information Science if you don’t intend to use UTME. You require; 1. Two A’ level passes in relevant subjects plus UTME requirements.

2. NCE (merit) in relevant subjects.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS

1. ABU and BUK accept NCE merit provided such candidates have two years of working experience.

2. UMYU accepts NCE in addition to five credit passes at O/Level or its equivalent.

3. UNN accepts D/E candidates who hold one of the following
(a) NCE with at least merit in Library and Information Science or the subject combined with library & Information Sciences.
(b) Higher School Certificate/GCE Advanced level in at least two subjects, including those combined with Library and Information Science.

4. UNIOSUN is the same as in Vocational and Technical Education 

5. UNIBEN accepts:
a. Two (2) passes in relevant subject areas at Advanced Level with SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes in three (3) other subjects in not more than two (2) sittings
b. Three (3) passes in relevant subject areas at Advanced level with SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level credit passes in two (2) other subjects in not more than two (2) sittings
c. At least Merit in two (2) major subjects in relevant areas in the NCE with SSCE/GCE ‘O’ Level Credit or its equivalent in three other subjects. Go to Course Faculty

Conclusion

Gaining admission into these polytechnics would not be as difficult as it seems. If you heed the guidelines stated above, you will be off to the races.
