Chemistry is taught under the Faculty of Sciences at Sokoto State University (SSU). The requirements are built around a core of four science subjects, with Chemistry itself fixed on every route into the department.
The O’Level stage is the strictest, naming all five credits outright. The UTME and Direct Entry stages then relax slightly, letting candidates choose two science partners rather than offering all of them.
Confirm that Chemistry appears on the current SSU course list and that your JAMB registration records it correctly before you sit the examination. A course entered in error cannot be assessed against these conditions.

The Sokoto State University (SSU) is located in Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Admission Requirements for Chemistry
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Chemistry is Five (5) SSCE credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Chemistry at SSU include Chemistry and two in Physics, Biology, or Mathematics.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfill to gain Direct Entry admission to study Chemistry if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Chemistry and any in Physics, Mathematics, or Biology.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into SSU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
The SSU Chemistry Requirements Tighten and Then Relax
The O’Level requirement names every credit: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There is no free slot at this stage, so the full science set has to be in place.
The UTME combination is lighter. English Language is compulsory, Chemistry is fixed, and the remaining two subjects are chosen from Physics, Biology and Mathematics rather than all three being required.
Direct Entry works to the same rule in a shorter form. Two ‘A’ Level or NCE passes are needed, one in Chemistry and the other from Physics, Mathematics or Biology.
The practical effect is that O’Level decides eligibility while the later stages decide emphasis. A candidate who completed the full science track at WAEC or NECO will satisfy every later condition automatically.
A JAMB score of 180 and above is the screening threshold for the 2026/2027 session at SSU.
