Sokoto State University (SSU) offers Microbiology under its Faculty of Sciences, and this page sets out the WAEC and NECO credits, the JAMB UTME combination, Direct Entry and the JAMB score required.
All five O’Level subjects are named here, so nothing in that list is optional. English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics must each be held at credit level.
The UTME then takes four of those five, with Physics and Mathematics sharing the last place. SSU screens at 180, which is lower than the threshold several older universities apply.

Admission Requirements for Microbiology
WAEC/NECO Subject Combination
The WAEC/NECO subject combination and requirements needed to study Microbiology is Five (5) SSCE credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
Because every subject is specified, a strong grade elsewhere cannot cover a shortfall in any one of them. There is no flexible credit to fall back on.
JAMB Subject Combination
In UTME, please note that the English Language is Compulsory for this course.
Therefore, the three (3) other JAMB UTME subject combinations needed to study Microbiology at SSU include Biology, Chemistry, and either Physics or Mathematics.
Since both Physics and Mathematics are already required credits, that choice costs you nothing. Write whichever of the two you expect to score higher in.
Direct Entry Requirement
These are the conditions you need to fulfil to gain Direct Entry admission to study Microbiology if you do not intend to use UTME.
You require two (2) ‘A’ Level/NCE passes in Chemistry and any one in Biology, Zoology, or Botany.
Zoology and Botany appear only in this route. Neither counts towards the five O’Level credits or the UTME, where Biology is named on its own.
JAMB Score
All candidates interested in getting admitted into SSU for the 2026/2027 session should know that to be eligible for the screening, you must have scored a minimum of 180 and above in your JAMB result.
Five Named Science Credits and a 180 Score Define SSU Microbiology
The O’Level side of this requirement is strict, naming all five subjects with no substitutions allowed. The JAMB side is milder, both in the single choice it offers and in the score it asks for.
Chemistry is the one subject that appears in every route, including Direct Entry, where it must accompany Biology, Zoology or Botany at A Level or NCE.
Secure the five credits first, then treat 180 as the floor rather than the target when you sit the UTME.
